Mario Johnson
Mario Johnson was raised on his family farm in Georgetown,
Idaho, where cattle and horses have been a big part of Johnson's
way of life for several generations. Throughout  his youth, his
parents placed high priority on calm intelligent horsemanship.
In 1994 he turned to this experience to launch his career and
began starting colts for the public. At that time he also began
attending colt starting and horsemanship clinics and learning from
some of the West's most respected horsemen. This education
helped him further refine his skills as a horseman and is a passion
that he continues to pursue.
Mario has also had the opportunity to cowboy and start colts on
large ranch operations. Because of his experience in working with
wild horses, he has given wild horse handling demonstrations for
the Bureau of Land Management at wild horse adoptions in  Idaho,
Utah, and Wyoming.
Mario's main objective when working with horses is to have the
horse calm and relaxed. He focuses on safety and uses pressure
and release to help each horse progress. His overall goal as a
horseman is to improve in his ability so each horse is better than
the last.
Mario, Cynthia and their children, Adrianna and Zane, currently
live in Georgetown, Idaho where their colt starting and
horsemanship business is based. Mario starts colts, gives
horsemanship clinics, teaches riding lessons, "cowboys" for local
ranchers, he also gives wild horse handling demonstrations for the
BLM, and braids rawhide reins and bosals.

              RECOMMENDATIONS

  • Gus Warr (BLM - Utah WH & B Program Lead)

"Mario is a very skilled horse trainer. He has worked with wild horses for
many years and understands their little quirks in comparison to other domestic
horses. I've seen him spend additional time with horses that might need a little
more attention on one thing or another, just to make sure they are confident in
moving on. This little extra effort may be the determining factor in the
soundness of a horse. Mario has strong family values and takes pride in any
animal he might be working. I was so confident in him that I took my personal
adopted mustang to him to work and get started for me, because I knew he
would do it right the first time."

  • Matt Dalton (Ranch Manager, Juddabeth Fox Trotters
                Snowville, Utah (Former employer)

"He has a tremendous amount of dedication to horse training. His level of
patience and quiet demeanor is a real powerful strength around horses."
"In fact, the things that I'm using with the colts as far as original halter breaking
are the things I learned from Mario."
